My Home is My Castle and I live in an Enchanted Land
Note: In the spring of 8th grade, I created the following lyrics to a song as a writing assignment drawing on my love of fantasy, the medieval period, and fairy tales. I believe this was during the time we were also studying about the medieval period ahead of the 6th, 7th and 8th grade collective two-week school trip to Europe, namely England, France, and Italy (the first time my parents and I had ever been to Europe). I even remember creating a diorama out of a shoe box with my medieval jousting Lego set too. Let’s also say that this all occurred just a couple of years after my parents and I had visited the Rennaissance Pleasure Faire in southern California. As a side note for Renn Faire lovers like me, this is in fact the oldest Renn Faire in the States, started by a couple in 1963! And yes, if you ask me, I still remember the music I set this song too!
Oh, the sun is a-setting, the darkness of the night is approaching,
The day will wrap itself in its warm blanket.
And we will go to sleep and dream about the old time of yore, of yore…
Let me take you back to the Medieval Ages,
Of heraldry and knights of yore,
Where kings and queens rules the land of England,
Castles stood high above the rolling shores, shores…
Chorus: My home is my castle and the land that I live in is in tales and songs of mystery
Of stories galore
Dragons and imps were along the roadsides,
You could see a fairy king or queen,
Monuments like, Stonehenge and others,
Praised the gods and goddess of pagan lore, lore…
Chorus: My home is my castle and the land that I live is of fantasy and magic
That is of folklore
Festivals and Pageants filled the air,
The men went off to the Crusades,
King Arthur was on his quest for the Holy Grail,
Then-The, dreaded Black Plague, dread Black Plague, spread all around…
I say goodbye to the people,
I must go back to my own time, but…my…
Home is my castle, my home is my castle,
My home is my castle and the land that I live in-
Is like a tale that is not of forgotten,…folklore.
